AOL just announced that Allie Kline, who was already chief marketing officer for AOL Platforms, has been promoted to CMO for the company as a whole.
AdAge reported yesterday that Erika Nardini would be leaving her role as CMO of AOL Advertising, and that Kline would be taking on Nardini’s duties.
According to the AOL press release, Kline will focus on the company’s corporate marketing, as well as its advertising and ad-tech divisions (in other words, not on its consumer brands).
Kline joined AOL (which owns TechCrunch) at the beginning of 2013, after serving as CMO at social media advertising company 33Across. She’s the first CMO for AOL since the departure of Jolie Hunt at the end of 2012 – reports at the time said the role would be eliminated and marketing efforts focused on specific divisions and products.
“Allie Kline has been a driving force in the growth of AOL’s media, advertising and publisher solutions platforms,” said CEO Tim Armstrong in the release. “Allie is an award-winning marketing strategist helping to fundamentally reshape the future of the company.”
