Just how badly have you wanted to have claws that automatically extend like Wolverine’s? Well now you can, thanks to a do-it-yourself project from MyoWare maker Advancer Technologies.
To transform yourself into the X-Men member, you’ll need a 3D-printed replica of the iconic claw (you can grab the file from GitHub), an Arduino micro-controller and one of Advancer Technologies latest muscle sensors.
The MyoWare muscle sensor is key to the neat effect, allowing the user to reveal their Wolverine ability with style.
When assembled, the sensors can recognize when your forearm muscles flex, quickly pushing out the concealed four inch claws. When you relax your muscles, the Wolverine-esque claws will retract.
Based in North Carolina, Advancer Technologies develop biomechatronic technologies, with a primary focus on muscle sensors.
The company is currently running a Kickstarter campaign for the fourth generation of its MyoWare device to help children with limb loss. The campaign is being run in partnership with non-profit organization Limbitless Solutions, the guys behind that awesome Iron Man video.
Supporting the campaign will get you the required MyoWare device, so you too can make your very own bionic claw.
The full list of instructions on how to make the bionic claw a reality can be found over at Make, and with plenty of time to get this working in time for this year’s Halloween, consider this your head start.
